El Consejo de la Juventud ha reclamado que la transexualidad deje ser considerada una enfermedad mental, con motivo del Día Internacional de la Visibilidad Trans.
En un comunicado, esta organización juvenil lamenta que pese a que España «se puso a la cabeza en el reconocimiento de derechos de la comunidad LGTBI, falta mucho por hacer para que todas las personas reciban el mismo trato y tengan las mismas oportunidades».
Recuerda que ha enviado al ministerio de Sanidad, Servicios Sociales e Igualdad sus peticiones respecto a la despatologización del colectivo trans, «lo que supone rechazar la categoría clínica del diagnóstico de disforia de género como mecanismo para el acceso a los servicios sanitarios y jurídicos de tránsito, tal y como exige la Unión Europea».
Además, el Consejo de la Juventud solicita que nuestro país trabaje para conseguir que la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) deje de considerar la transexualidad como un trastorno mental en la próxima versión de la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades que verá la luz en 2018.
En este sentido, el Consejo de la Juventud en España considera insuficiente la propuesta de que en esta nueva actualización la transexualidad conste como una «condición relativa a la condición sexual» dentro de los «trastornos de identidad sexual y de género» bajo la categoría de «incongruencia de género».
