El atentado de Manchester ha dejado al menos 22 muertos —entre ellos muchos niños y adolescentes— y 59 heridos después de que un hombre entrara en el vestíbulo del Manchester Arena, un pabellón donde 21.000 personas se habían reunido para ver un concierto de la cantante estadounidense Ariana Grande. El ataque
Eran las 22.35 horas en Manchester (23.35 horas en España). El concierto de Ariana Grande, una cantante estadounidense que causa furor entre niños y adolescentes, acaba de terminar en el Manchester Arena, un moderno pabellón con capacidad para 21.000 personas en el centro de la ciudad.

 

 

Los espectadores empiezan a abandonar el recinto. Justo en ese momento se produce una explosión a la entrada del vestíbulo del Manchester Arena. Se trata de un terrorista suicida que ha hecho explosionar un artefacto casero que lleva bajo la ropa. El suceso ocurrió justo cuando «la gente estaba abandonando el espectáculo de Ariana Grande», según los organizadores del concierto.

 

 

Poco después la Policía hacía detonar un bulto sospechoso. Las autoridades locales confirmaron minutos después que el paquete no contenía explosivos.

 

La inmensa mayoría de las personas que acudieron al concierto eran niños y adolescentes. A la salida había muchos padres esperando a sus hijos para llevarlos a casa. El terrorista suicida esperó a que los espectadores empezaran a abandonar el pabellón para hacer detonar la bomba que llevaba encima: aprovechó la circunstancia para hacer el mayor daño posible.

 

 

Tras la explosión el caos se extendió por toda la zona. Horas después del ataque cientos de personas continúan buscando a familiares y amigos que asistieron al concierto; las redes sociales se han llenado de mensajes de personas que aún no han recibido noticias de sus seres queridos. .

 

 

El Gobierno de Mariano Rajoy no tiene constancia de que haya víctimas españolas, aunque aún no se puede descartar ese extremo.

 

 

Los testigos
Quienes estuvieron en el lugar hablan de escenas de pánico. «Todo el mundo estaba gritando y corriendo, el suelo estaba repleto de abrigos y teléfonos móviles. La gente simplemente lo arrojaba todo», relató a la BBC Robert Tempkin, de 22 años. Otro testigo explicó que la salida «estaba bloqueada, por lo que todo el mundo corría para encontrar cualquier salida lo antes posible», afirmó. El caos fue total en los primeros minutos.

 

 

La investigación
La Policía de Manchester asegura que se trata de un atentado suicida: los investigadores han encontrado los restos del cadáver del terrorista, que según los primeros indicios hizo explosionar un artefacto casero a la entrada del vestíbulo del Manchester Arena. La primera ministra británica, Theresa May, ha informado este mismo martes por la mañana, tras la reunión del Comité de Emergencias Cobra que la Policía ha identificado al terrorista, aunque de momento no se ha hecho pública su identidad.

Los agentes encargados de la investigación creen que el atentado fue cometido por una sola persona aunque aún tienen que determinar si el terrorista actuó como un lobo solitario o si formaba parte de una red y contó con apoyo externo.

Por otro lado, también este martes por la mañana, un hombre encapuchado ha reivindicado el atentado en nombre del Estado Islámico en un vídeo difundido por el experto marroquí en movimientos yihadistas Abdallah Rami. En el vídeo, de solo 16 segundos, el hombre encapuchado, con la bandera negra del EI tras él, se expresa en inglés y señala que «los leones del Estado Islámico están empezando a atacar a todos los cruzados [nombre que los yihadistas dan a los cristianos]» y que «esto es solo el principio».

Sin embargo, la autenticidad del vídeo aún no ha podido ser establecida con certeza: se trata de un formato que el Estado Islámico no usa habitualmente para reclamar la autoría de ataques terroristas.

 

 

Las reacciones
El Gobierno británico ha desplegado a más policías en la calle. Theresa May, tras reunir al Comité de Emergencias Cobra, ha manifestado: «El terrorismo nunca ganará. Anoche sufrimos lo peor de la humanidad, aunque también vimos la valentía y amabilidad de mucha gente». El mundo entero ha condenado el ataque. La reacción más llamativa ha sido la de Donald Trump, presidente de Estados Unidos: «Los terroristas son unos perdedores malvados de la vida.
