El otro día una vieja compañera de trabajo me decía, aprovechando que nos encontramos de forma casual en un restaurante, lo rápido que te cambia la vida cuando el caprichoso del destino te pone contra las cuerdas y te hace padecer una enfermedad que, aún popular y famosa por encima de otras, no existen para la gente de poco entendimiento emocional, y suponen un grave problema para la persona, que ha de justificarse hasta por respirar.
Recuerdo que algunos años atrás era el caso de la depresión, tan en boca de todo el mundo, hoy como si nada, y de viejos compañeros de viaje que tuvieron que pasar por decenas de médicos para demostrar que no se levantaban de la cama porque no podían, no por gusto propio.
Seguramente hubo quién, en un afán de protagonismo, se quedó con la copla, con la sintomatología de un enfermo, y alegó esta enfermedad para justificar errores y faltas en el trabajo, pero estoy segura de que el porcentaje es mucho mayor si contamos aquella gente que la tiene diagnosticada, pero a la que le costó empezar a ponerle nombre en su historial médico.
Otra de esas enfermedades es la ahora tan popular fibromialgia, todavía me sorprenden los datos de la cantidad de personas que la padecen, que son muchas, pero lo más curioso es que sigue sin ser detectada fácilmente, a pesar de estar en boca de todos los médicos con un poco de interés en enfermedades extrañas, ya que es de difícil detección, y me preocupa, como psicóloga, que nos cueste tanto introducir estos vocablos en nuestras conversaciones habituales y que les demos, de ese modo, tan mala vida física, pero también emocional, a los pacientes.
Otro dato a tener en cuenta es la cantidad de gente a la que el cuerpo le dice basta, que acaban teniendo una enfermedad de tipo somática, que viene a ser lo mismo que decir que tu cuerpo y tu mente no pueden más, sufriendo daños algunas de las partes de tu cuerpo, y te deja en un estado de inutilidad y fragilidad, ya que no te cree ni la gente que tienes cerca, ni la batería de médicos que visitas buscando respuestas, pero te levantas y te acuestas con problemas de todo tipo, doy fe.
Viví en carne propia la cara de estupefacción cuando le contaba a los médicos los síntomas que presentaba durante todo el día, como si fuera divertido inventarse una enfermedad para algo y pasearse con ella de la mano por centros médicos y hospitales, y sentí en mi propia piel como la gente cercana me decía que era puro estrés, pero mi cuerpo no tenía forma humana de controlar ni parar mi malestar y el modo en que me sentí, tan desprotegida, como una niña pequeña entre una multitud, buscando solucionarlo por mí misma, porque veía claro que nadie vendría a lanzarme los brazos que tanto necesitaba, y que, por mi experiencia profesional, sé que necesitan tantísimas personas.
Mis palabras en estas líneas son una petición, dirigida a todas aquellas personas que tengan en su entorno a una persona con una de estas patologías o enfermedades raras, para que tengan la paciencia que tanto necesitan, para que intenten hacerles la vida más fácil, o al menos, para que no duden de sus palabras, que ya bastante cuesta tener un cuerpo que no te responde como quisieras.
