El Valencia CF Femenino buscará su pase a las semifinales de la Copa de SM la Reina en partido de cuartos contra el Athletic Club, tras el sorteo celebrado en la Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas. Será el sábado 3 de junio de 2017 a las 12.30 horas, en el estadio Matapiñoneras, en San Sebastián de los Reyes (Madrid).
La 35º edición del torneo se dividirá en dos fases. La Primera Fase (cuartos) se desarrollará el fin de semana del 3 y 4 de junio, a las 10 y 12.30 horas, en el estadio Matapiñoneras: respectivamente, FC Barcelona – Real Sociedad; Athletic Club – Valencia CF; Atlético de Madrid – Rayo Vallecano; y UD Granadilla – Levante UD. Y la Fase Final, en la Ciudad del Fútbol: semifinales, el 16 de junio; y final, el 18 de junio.
Blanquinegras y leonas ya saben lo que es medirse entre ellas tanto en Liga como en Copa. En Liga, esta temporada las de Cristian Toro se han impuesto a las de Joseba Aguirre en los dos enfrentamientos: 3-1 en la Ciudad Deportiva Valencia CF, con goles de Ainhoa Vicente en propia puerta, Zornoza y Carol; y 1-2 en Lezama, con doblete de Mari Paz. Mientras que en Copa, ambos equipos se han enfrentado en dos ocasiones, en 2014 superaron la eliminatoria las bilbaínas y en 2015 hicieron lo propio las nuestras. En ambos casos en cuartos.
Desde su creación en la temporada 2009-10, el Valencia CF Femenino ha participado cuatro veces en Copa, además de en la presente edición: en 2011, las blanquinegras no pudieron derrotar a la Real Sociedad en octavos; en 2014, cayeron eliminadas en cuartos ante el Athletic Club; en 2015, las nuestras lograron el subcampeonato frente al Sporting Club de Huelva tras eliminar al Athletic Club en cuartos y al FC Barcelona en semifinales; y en 2016, las blanquinegras no pudieron superar en semifinales al actual campeón de la Iberdrola Primera División Femenina y vigente de Copa, el Atlético de Madrid.
El técnico argentino, Cristian Toro, analiza la eliminatoria ante el conjunto bilbaíno: “El Athletic Club es un rival duro y un gran equipo que cuenta con grandes jugadoras. Aunque esta temporada hemos ganado los dos partidos, sabemos de la dificultad de enfrentarnos a ellas. Nosotros sabíamos que de cara a la Copa de la Reina teníamos que tomar a cada rival con el máximo respeto”.
Asimismo, señaló: “Nosotros estamos centrados en nosotros mismos, en hacer un buen partido y en pensar solamente en el Athletic Club, no más allá. A un partido puede pasar de todo y lo afrontamos con el respeto de la dificultad, pero con la confianza de la temporada que hemos hecho y del juego que está desplegando el equipo. Hay que tomar la eliminatoria como una final. Tenemos la posibilidad de jugar un solo partido, que es ante el Athletic Club, y con la posibilidad de jugar dos o tres más. Por eso, debemos jugarlo con el respeto al rival sabiendo que será un partido muy duro, pero con confianza”.
