Se termina el año 2018 y los balances son claros. Las mujeres siguen siendo asesinadas y el machismo sigue imperando en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad. Aunque estos 365 días han servido para mostrar que el movimiento feminista está más vivo que nunca —en jornadas históricas como las de 8M o las manifestaciones masivas para protestar contra la sentencia de ‘La Manada’—, siguen quedando reminiscencias propios de otra época.
Por ello, porque aún queda mucho camino que recorrer, hemos seleccionado algunos de los momentos más machistas del año. Declaraciones anacrónicas, gestos bochornosos o imágenes de acoso, son algunos de los ejemplos que recogemos a continuación.
El demonio es feminista
A las puertas de un nuevo 8 de marzo, el obispo de San Sebastián no quiso perder la ocasión para lanzar una nueva cruzada. En esta oportunidad, José Ignacio Munilla advirtió a sus fieles sobre la necesidad de salir en defensa de «un auténtico feminismo». ¿Qué significa eso concretamente? A criterio de este religioso, se trata de apostar y promover desde la Iglesia «un feminismo femenino, no un feminismo de género destructivo de la propia mujer».
Así, en su programa en la emisora religiosa Radio María, Munilla dejó claro que a la Iglesia no le gusta el feminismo, asegurando que «el demonio» está de parte del movimiento.
Melendi: «Lucho para que la mujer sea igual que el hombre, no por el feminismo»
Este año no ha faltadado la clásica declaración que equipara la lucha feminista con el machismo. Fue el cantante Melendi quién, en una entrevista con El Comercio, arguyó que no lucha «por el feminismo», sino «para que la mujer sea igual que el hombre». «No me gustan las polaridades», añadía el músico.
Hablar de cine y «no marear con otros temas»
La gala de los Goya de 2018 pasó a la historia como una de las más reivindicativas con el feminismo y con la igualdad de salarios y oportunidades en el mundo del cine. Sin embargo, también hubo momentos de bochorno. «Me gustaría que se hablase más de cine y no marear con otros temas», respondía a los periodistas el humorista y actor Arturo Valls en el paseo por la alfombra roja.
Valls, lejos de matizar sus palabras, volvió a avivar el fuego de la polémica en una entrevista para la Cadena Ser posterior a la gala. El presentador del programa Ahora Caigo aseguró estar a favor de la causa feminista, pero lanzó una pregunta que causó cierto revuelo en las redes sociales: «¿Hay que premiar a una mujer que ha hecho una peli peor solo por paridad?». Además, afirmó que «las mujeres no tienen ninguna traba en la industria», y que si son menos es porque «simplemente, hay menos mujeres que quieren dedicarse al cine, y por eso estadísticamente salen menos».
¿Una pastilla de hockey para una niña?
El jugador de hockey, Brett Connolly, protagonizó un gesto viral en el mes de abril. Durante el calentamiento del partido de su equipo, Washington Capitals, contra los Blue Jackets, el jugador quiso regalar una pastilla de hockey a una joven aficionada que se encontraba en la primera fila del pabellón. Sin embargo, el cruel gesto de un adulto del público dejó un momento que para muchos tuiteros resume el machismo reinante en el mundo del deporte.
Connolly observó a la aficionada golpear el cristal y quiso recompensar el apoyo a su equipo. Lanzó el puck por detrás del cristal, pero sorprendentemente el adulto que se encontraba más cerca de la joven decidió darle la pastilla a un niño, en vez de ella. La moción de censura a Mariano Rajoy trajo consigo un nuevo Gobierno que fue celebrado en la mayor parte del mundo por ser el Ejecutivo con más mujeres del planeta. Sin embargo, la prensa española más rancia aprovechó la coyuntura para sacar a la luz el machismo de sus líneas editoriales. El más polémico de todos fue el especial del ABC llamado «El guardarropa de las ministras de Sánchez».
En el subtitulo del artículo, «análisis de los aciertos y errores –a subsanar–de los estilismos de las recién estrenadas dueñas de las carteras ministeriales». De esta forma, el periódico se atrincheró en una postura machista para describir el vestuario de las ministras, llegando, incluso, a ofrecer consejos para mejorar el atuendo de cara al público.
Ataques a la ministra Calvo por su «canalillo»
Tras la visita de la Carmen Calvo al Vaticano, los medios más conservadores volvieron a sacar a relucir su machismo con artículos y comentarios arcaicos que cargaban contra la vestimenta de la ministra. Los titulares, anclados en otra época, pusieron sus focos en un detalle que para cualquier persona normal no sería noticiable: «el canalillo» de la política socialista.
“La pobre creía que se puede ir al Vaticano a enseñar el canalillo, y ese canalillo, a un cardenal con más conchas que un galápago conchudo”, comentaba el tertuliano Sergio González en el programa de Carlos Herrera de la Cadena COPE, la emisora de la Iglesia. El Mundo, por su parte, tuiteó una columna escrita por el propio González con un entrecomillado tan ofensivo como machista: «Carmen Calvo se entrevistó con Parolin luciendo canalillo y encajes».
«Yo de dinero no hablo, y menos con una mujer»
El presidente del Atlético de Madrid fue protagonista hace escasas semanas por unos comentarios machistas que reflejan lo alejado de la realidad social que en algunas ocasiones puede estar el mundo del fútbol. Tras ser preguntado por el presupuesto que tiene el club para renovar el contrato de Godín, Enrique Cerezo contestó a la periodista que no hablaba de dinero, » y menos con una mujer». Una respuesta que causó un gran revuelo en las redes sociales y en los ámbitos periodísticos.
Sin embargo, el directivo rojiblanco no pidió perdón por sus palabras, más bien lo contrario. Tanto es así, que en declaraciones a periodistas culpó a la propia reportera de lo sucedido por haber preguntado algo que no debía. «Yo creo que a ninguna mujer con dos dedos de frente le puede parecer que lo que yo he dicho ha sido machista, al contrario, puede ser simpático, alegre y, sobre todo, por el bien de ellas. The ship had a lucrative 19-year career until that September night when a gale-force wind caused its seams to break apart, according to the announcement. The captain, William Griffin, ordered the crew to evacuate on the ship’s yawl boat, from where they watched the F.J. King sink, bow first.

A CBS News spokesperson had no immediate comment on the astonishing turn of events.
Alfonsi’s report was weeks in the making. Weiss screened it for the first time last Thursday night. The story was finalized on Friday, according to CBS sources, and was announced in a press release that same day.
On Saturday morning, Weiss began to change her mind about the story and raised concerns about its content, including the lack of responses from the relevant Trump administration officials.
But networks like CBS sometimes deliver taped programming to affiliates like Global TV ahead of time. That appears to be what happened in this case: The Friday version of the “60 Minutes” episode is what streamed to Canadian viewers.
The inadvertent Canadian stream is “the best thing that could have happened,” a CBS source told CNN on Monday evening, arguing that the Alfonsi piece is “excellent” and should have been televised as intended.
People close to Weiss have argued that the piece was imbalanced, however, because it did not include interviews with Trump officials.
Weiss told staffers on Monday, “We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera.” However, in an earlier memo to colleagues, Alfonsi asserted that her team tried, and their “refusal to be interviewed” was “a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story.”
At the end of the segment that streamed on Global TV’s platform, Alfonsi said Homeland Security “declined our request for an interview and referred all questions about CECOT to El Salvador. The government there did not respond to our request.”
The segment included sound bites from President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. But it was clearly meant to be a story about Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador, not about the officials who implemented Trump’s mass deportation policy.

Lopez Belloza, who is now staying with her grandparents, came to the US in 2014 at age 8 and was ordered deported several years later. Though the government has argued that she missed multiple opportunities to appeal, Lopez Belloza said her previous attorney told her there was no removal order.
“If I had been aware of my 2017 deportation order, I would not have traveled with my valid passport,” she wrote. “I would have dedicated significant time and effort during the past eight years to hiring an attorney who could help me resolve my immigration situation.”

Alfonsi’s report was weeks in the making. Weiss screened it for the first time last Thursday night. The story was finalized on Friday, according to CBS sources, and was announced in a press release that same day.
On Saturday morning, Weiss began to change her mind about the story and raised concerns about its content, including the lack of responses from the relevant Trump administration officials.
But networks like CBS sometimes deliver taped programming to affiliates like Global TV ahead of time. That appears to be what happened in this case: The Friday version of the “60 Minutes” episode is what streamed to Canadian viewers.
The inadvertent Canadian stream is “the best thing that could have happened,” a CBS source told CNN on Monday evening, arguing that the Alfonsi piece is “excellent” and should have been televised as intended.
People close to Weiss have argued that the piece was imbalanced, however, because it did not include interviews with Trump officials.
Weiss told staffers on Monday, “We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera.” However, in an earlier memo to colleagues, Alfonsi asserted that her team tried, and their “refusal to be interviewed” was “a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story.”
At the end of the segment that streamed on Global TV’s platform, Alfonsi said Homeland Security “declined our request for an interview and referred all questions about CECOT to El Salvador. The government there did not respond to our request.”
The segment included sound bites from President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. But it was clearly meant to be a story about Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador, not about the officials who implemented Trump’s mass deportation policy.

Trump defended his decision to pick Landry telling reporters on Monday evening that the US needs Greenland “for national security” and that Landry had approached him about the assignment.
“Louisiana, the Louisiana Purchase. He said I’m governor of Louisiana, and he said I would love … I didn’t call him, he called me. He’s very proactive,” Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago.
“We need Greenland for national security, not for minerals. We have so many sites for minerals and oil and everything,” Trump said, trying to make the case for annexing Greenland, despite its status as a self-governing territory of Denmark. “If you take a look at Greenland, you look up and down the coast, you have Russian and Chinese ships all over the place. We need it for national security. We have to have it,” he added.
During his Monday remarks, Trump went on to claim that Denmark has “spent no money” on Greenland and has “no military protection.”
While thanking Trump for his appointment, Landry said it was an “honor to serve you in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the US.” He also said that “this in no way affects” his position as Louisiana governor.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to annex Greenland – a huge, resource-rich island in the Atlantic and self-governing territory of Denmark – claiming that this is needed for American security purposes.
Both Greenland and Denmark, a NATO ally of the US, are staunchly opposed to the idea.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen reiterated their opposition Monday to US plans to take over Greenland, stating “you cannot annex another country. Not even with an argument about international security,” according to Reuters.
“Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders and the US shall not take over Greenland,” they said in a joint statement.
Nielsen said earlier Monday that Trump’s announcement “may sound big, but it does not change anything for us. We decide our own future,” Reuters reported.

Earlier during Mass, he asked how, at Christmas, “can we not think of the tents in Gaza, exposed for weeks to rain, wind and cold.” With more than 400,000 homes destroyed during Israel’s war against Hamas, Gazans are being forced to choose this winter between living in tents exposed to the elements or living inside buildings that could collapse any minute.
“Fragile is the flesh of defenseless populations, tried by so many wars, ongoing or concluded, leaving behind rubble and open wounds,” Leo said. He quoted an Israeli poet, Yehuda Amichai, who called for peace to blossom “like wildflowers.”

“Tourism has popped up around paddle boarding and kayaking, and these shipwrecks are visible from the surface because the water is so clear,” he added.

And then there are advancements in technology. “Side-scan sonar used to cost $100,000 back in 1980,” he said. “The one we used to find this (shipwreck) was just over $10,000. They’ve really come down in price.”
The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, has a project in the works to map the bottom of the Great Lakes in high resolution by 2030. If the organization succeeds, all shipwrecks will be found, Baillod said.
In the meantime, Baillod said he hopes he and his team will continue to discover missing shipwrecks from his database in the coming years and bring along citizen scientists for the ride: “I keep looking, and I don’t doubt that we’ll keep finding.”
