Rusia achaca la masacre al bombardeo sirio de un almacén de armas tóxicas de los rebeldes
Rusia ha asegurado este miércoles que fueron aviones del régimen de Bachar el Asad los que bombardearon la localidad de Jan Sheijun —en la provincia de Idlib y bajo control rebelde—, y en los que murieron al menos 72 personas, entre ellos, una veintena de niños, como consecuencia supuestamente de la exposición a agentes químicos. Este extremo no ha podido ser confirmado por fuentes independientes. Reino Unido, Francia y Estados Unidos han condenado el bombardeo, así como la OTAN y la ONU, que a través de su secretario general, el portugués António Guterres, ha calificado el ataque de «crimen de guerra». La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) ha manifestado que los síntomas coinciden con los de un ataque con agentes químicos.
Según la versión expuesta por Moscú a través del portavoz del Ministerio de Defensa ruso, Igor Konashenkov, no hubo ataque químico sino que los gases letales procedían de «un almacén donde los terroristas [rebeldes] guardaban proyectiles cargados con agentes tóxicos» y que fue alcanzado por los bombarderos del régimen. El Observatorio Sirio de Derechos Humanos asegura, sin embargo, que el ataque químico fue lanzado desde el aire. «Creemos que la cifra de fallecidos va a seguir aumentando porque hay muchas personas desaparecidas», ha afirmado la ONG, con sede en Londres, aunque con una amplia red de informantes en el terreno.
«Según los sistemas de seguimiento aeroespacial de Rusia, ayer [por el martes], entre las 11.30 y las 12.30 [hora local], la aviación siria llevó a cabo un bombardeo en los alrededores de Jan Sheijun contra un almacén de munición de los terroristas», ha dicho Konashenkov. «Estas instalaciones contenían fábricas para producir proyectiles cargados con agentes tóxicos», ha agregado, según ha informado la agencia rusa de noticias Itar Tass. «Desde este gran arsenal se entregaban armas químicas a milicianos en Irak», ha detallado el mismo portavoz.
La declaración rusa se produce en medio de la condena internacional prácticamente unánime contra el bombardeo por parte de aviones de las fuerzas de Gobierno de El Asad. Este miércoles, mismo está prevista una reunión de urgencia del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, a petición de Francia y Reino Unido. Estados Unidos (EE UU), Francia y Turquía han condenado el ataque, el más mortífero relacionado con armas químicas desde la ofensiva en 2013 sobre Guta (cerca de Damasco), en el que murieron alrededor de 1.400 personas. El entonces presidente de EE UU; Barack Obama, responsabilizó a El Asad de lo ocurrido.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) ha explicado este miércoles, en un comunicado, que los síntomas que mostraban algunos de los heridos en el supuesto ataque químico son «consistentes» los efectos de un agente nervioso. «La probabilidad de exposición a un ataque químico se ve amplificada por la aparente falta de heridas externas registrada en casos que mostraron un rápido cuadro de síntomas similares, incluidos problemas respiratorios agudos como causa principal de muerte», dice la nota, informa Efe.

El secretario general de la OTAN, Jens Stoltenberg, y el presidente de la Eurocámara, Antonio Tajani, han condenado este miércoles el ataque. «Es inaceptable y contradice los valores que tenemos el deber de defender tanto dentro como fuera de nuestras fronteras», ha declarado Tajani al abrir el pleno en Estrasburgo (Francia).
