La exministra socialista de Cultura Carmen Alborch ha fallecido este miércoles en València a los 70 años de edad tras una larga enfermedad, según ha podido confirmar La Vanguardia. Alborch fue ministra de Cultura del Gobierno entre 1993 y 1996, además de diputada del grupo socialista en tres legislaturas. En 2007 fue candidata a la alcaldía de València, ejerciendo de portavoz socialista en el Ayuntamiento hasta junio de 2011. Mujer pionera, fue la primera decana de la Universidad de Valencia y la primera ministra de Cultura.
Entró en política en 1987, cuando a punto de irse a Nueva York para estudiar propiedad intelectual le llamó el entonces conseller de Cultura de la Generalitat Valenciana, Ciprià Císcar, para ofrecerle la dirección general de Cultura, y decidió cambiar el decanato de la Facultad de Derecho por la Conselleria.
Poco después pasó a dirigir un museo que daba sus primeros pasos, el Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (IVAM), donde apoyó las vanguardias y que dejó en 1993 para ser la primera ministra de Cultura de la democracia en el Ejecutivo de Felipe González en calidad de independiente, pues no se afilió al PSOE hasta el año 2000.
De esa etapa, en la que hubo quienes la calificaron como ministra pop o ministra Almodóvar, Alborch recordaba los murmullos que se despertaron cuando llegó al Congreso de los Diputados con su melena rojiza, un rasgo que siempre la acompañaría, al igual que su amplia sonrisa.
Cultura y feminismo, sus dos grandes caballos de batalla
En su currículum figuran numerosas distinciones por su lucha por la igualdad entre mujeres y hombres, como Premio de Mujeres Progresistas, Premio Meridiana de la Junta de Andalucía, Premio Rosa Manzano 2007 o Premio de Gabriela Sánchez Aranda 2009. Es socia de honor de la Asociación Clásicas y Modernas y de la Asociación de mujeres investigadoras y tecnólogas (AMIT). Además, ha recibido también el Premio Generando Arte 2015 concedido por la Asociación Generando Arte de mujeres artistas.
De hecho, la también escritora, nacida en Castelló de Rugat (Valencia) el 31 de octubre de 1947, publicó varios títulos como de títulos como Solas, gozos y sombras de una manera de vivir (1999); Malas, rivalidad y complicidad entre mujeres (2002); Libres, ciudadanas del mundo (2004), La ciudad y la vida (2009) y Los placeres de la edad (2014).
La última aparición pública de Alborch fue hace apenas dos semanas, en la diada valenciana del 9 d’Octubre, fecha en la que se citó con el presidente del Gobierno, Pedro Sánchez, y el presidente de la Generalitat valenciana, Ximo Puig, al recibir la Alta Distinción de la Generalitat Valenciana. Un acto en el que la exministra socialista reivindicó que el feminismo debería ser declarado patrimonio inmaterial de la humanidad y confesó cuál sería su motivación vital “hasta el último suspiro y hasta el último día”: luchar por hacer un mundo mejor.
De ello se ha acordado Pedro Sánchez, quien poco después de conocerse el fallecimiento, ha dedicado unas palabras a Alborch en las redes sociales, donde ha definido a la exministra como “una feminista pionera, una mujer de principios defensora a ultranza de la cultura”. “Nos queda su ejemplo de lucha, su compromiso por hacer del mundo un lugar más justo y de España un país mejor. Hasta siempre, compañera”, se ha despedido.
El ministro de Fomento, el valenciano José Luis Ábalos, ha roto a llorar esta tarde en la tribuna del pleno del Congreso poco después de conocerse la muerte de la exministra Alborch. Ábalos, que se encontraba en la tribuna para responder a una interpelación de Joan Baldoví de Copmpromís, ha señalado que nos deja “una persona importante… una persona importante, para los valencianos pero también para los españoles”. “No seré yo quien haga una semblanza”, ha dicho y, emocionado, no ha podido continuar.

Para el expresidente Felipe González, que compartió con ella consejo de ministros entre 1993 y 1996, “Carmen Alborch dejará un hueco difícil en la vida de los amigos y de los que compartimos responsabilidades con ella. Su personalidad desbordante de optimismo y su compromiso serán su legado”.

También los tres principales líderes de la oposición han trasladado hoy a los socialistas su pésame y condolencias por la muerte de la exministra. “Mi sentido pésame a la familia, compañeros socialistas y amigos de Carmen Alborch, una mujer trabajadora y valiente en la defensa de sus ideas. Descanse en paz”, ha escrito en Twitter el presidente del PP, Pablo Casado.
Mensaje muy similar al que han trasladado en la misma red social el secretario general de Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, y el líder de Cs, Albert Rivera. “Muere a los 70 años la exministra de Cultura Carmen Alborch. Que la tierra le sea leve. Todo mi cariño a la familia socialista y a sus allegados”, ha afirmado Iglesias. “Descanse en paz Carmen Alborch”, ha escrito Rivera en su cuenta de Twitter, donde también ha mostrado su “más sentido pésame “a sus familiares y allegados, y a todos sus compañeros socialistas”.
El pleno del Senado ha guardado un minuto de silencio en memoria de Alborch, que fue senadora socialista durante dos legislaturas en las que ocupó la secretaría primera y tercera de la Mesa.
Según el ministro de Cultura, José Guirao, Carmen Alborch fue “una mujer avanzada a su tiempo, una apasionada gestora cultural y una amiga imposible de olvidar”. El president de la Generalitat, Ximo Puig, ha afirmado que Alborch “deja el testimonio de su alegría en el combate de las ideas que hacen avanzar el mundo. Nos deja la creatividad y el feminismo”, ha agregado.
El funeral, este jueves
Los restos mortales de Carmen Alborch han sido trasladados pasadas las 18 horas desde su domicilio hasta el Tanatorio Municipal de València. Según han informado fuentes de la familia, el funeral se celebrará este jueves en la más estricta intimidad.
Las mismas fuentes han explicado que el presidente del Gobierno, Pedro Sánchez, el president de la Generalitat, Ximo Puig, y el ex secretario de Organización del PSOE y exconseller de Cultura, Educación y Ciencia, Ciprià Ciscar, se han comunicado con la familia para expresar sus condolencias.
