Entre abril y junio de 2017, más de 25.000 niños de nueve localidades españolas y una francesa participarán en la séptima edición de las Aulas Ciclistas, una iniciativa promovida por Cofidis, en colaboración con la Fundación Deporte Joven del Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), La Vuelta y la Asociación de Ciclistas Profesionales (ACP). El proyecto, que es el preludio de La Vuelta Junior Cofidis, quiere impulsar entre los más pequeños la práctica del deporte en general y del ciclismo en particular, haciendo especial hincapié en la educación vial y el estilo de vida saludable.
En la edición de 2017, 100 escuelas españolas pertenecientes a las localidades de Tomares, Antequera, Cuenca, Sagunto, Gijón, Madrid, Logroño, Tarragona y Alhama, y la ciudad de Nimes, en Francia, recibirán la visita de ex ciclistas profesionales y de monitores especializados para concienciar y enseñar a los más pequeños la importancia de llevar una vida saludable, la práctica del deporte, las reglas y normas de educación vial y varias nociones básicas de mecánica de bicicleta como cambiar una rueda o poner de nuevo la cadena. Durante las seis ediciones anteriores, las Aulas Ciclistas han visitado más de 600 colegios por toda la geografía española enseñando a más de 150.000 escolares el uso correcto de la bicicleta o las normas de circulación más importantes.
Además de la teoría y del aprendizaje, los escolares que participen en las próximas Aulas Ciclistas podrán participar en La Vuelta Junior, una iniciativa promovida por Cofidis, en la que 150 niños de cada localidad que hayan participado previamente en las Aulas Ciclistas, recorrerán en bicicleta los últimos kilómetros de una etapa de La Vuelta viviendo una experiencia inolvidable y compartiendo circuito con los ciclistas profesionales. Una vez terminada la etapa los niños ganadores subirán al podio para recoger sus trofeos y acompañarán a los ganadores de la etapa en la foto final.
Durante las últimas 6 ediciones, La Vuelta Junior Cofidis ha contado con la participación de más de 9.000 niños en las 60 etapas ya disputadas y, cada año, va atrayendo más adeptos al ciclismo entre el público más joven.
