Condenada en varias ocasiones por negar el Holocausto, la anciana debía haberse presentado hace una semana en la cárcel para cumplir la sentencia de dos años de prisión que se dictó contra ella en agosto del pasado año.
Se encontraba en busca y captura.»La condenada no se presentó al finalizar el plazo legal para comenzar su pena de detención, por lo que la fiscalía de Verden (norte) emitió el 4 de mayo de 2018 una orden de arresto», indicó el ministerio público en un comunicado. El plazo expiró el 23 de abril.La abuela nazi, que nunca ha dado su brazo a torcer pese a las evidencias de la Historia, el testimonio de los supervivientes y los correctivos ha recibido por parte de la Justicia, no se fue muy lejos para eludir su condena. Simplemente, se quedó en su casa. Allí fue arrestada y conducida al penal.Haverbeck fue presidenta de un centro de enseñanza prohibido en 2008 por difundir propaganda nazi. En 2016, fue condenada a ocho meses de cárcel por enviar un escrito al alcalde de la ciudad de Detmold (noroeste del país) y un artículo a un periódico en el que señalaba que Auschwitz nunca había sido un campo de exterminio.
Un año antes, la Justicia había dictado contra ella una pena de diez meses de prisión por declarar en una entrevista en la televisión pública alemana que el «Holocausto era la mayor mentira y la más duradera de la Historia». Además, en otras dos ocasiones fue sancionada con el pago de una multa. En casi todos los juicios, la octogenaria reincidente ha recibido el apoyo presencial de simpatizantes.
En Alemania, la apología del nazismo o la negación del Holocausto es un delito castigado judicialmente con penas que pueden ir desde una multa hasta los cinco años de cárcel.Aproximadamente 1,1 millones de personas, entre ellas un millón de judíos, perecieron entre 1940 y 1945 solamente en el campo de concentración de Auschwitz-Birkenau.
