La Oficina del Alto Comisionado de Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos ha denunciado este martes que Israel mata de una forma que «parece indiscriminada» y recordó que querer saltar o dañar una valla fronteriza (la de la Franja de Gaza) no justifica el uso de munición letal.
«Parece que cualquiera puede ser asesinado o herido; mujeres, niños, reporteros, personal de primeros auxilios, si se acercan a más de 700 metros de la valla. Dispararon a un amputado doble, ¿que amenaza es un amputado?», afirmó el portavoz en Ginebra de la Oficina, Rupert Colville.
«Parece bastante claro que se está matando de forma indiscriminada», precisó Colville. «El uso de la fuerza letal debe ser el último recurso, no el primero y debe responder a una amenaza a la vida. El intento de saltar o dañar una valla, o lanzar cocteles molotov no es claramente una amenaza de muerte», subrayó el portavoz, que puntualizó que el hecho de que no había «amenaza real de muerte» contra el Ejército israelí se demuestra en el hecho de que solo un soldado israelí resultó herido leve. «La comparación de cifras habla por si sola»
Según datos de la Oficina de Asuntos Humanitarios de Naciones Unidas (OCHA), 58 personas murieron este lunes como consecuencia de la represión israelí contra las protestas palestinas en Gaza. Una cifra que el Ministerio de Salud palestino ha elevado a 60, entre los que hay ocho menores de edad. De los más de 2.700 heridos ─entre los que hay 225 menores─, la mitad fue por impactos de bala o metralla.
«Ayer fue el día más violento desde la guerra de 2014», ha denunciado Unicef. Entonces, perdieron la vida más de 2.000 palestinos en 50 días durante la operación israelí militar Margen Protector. Ahora, desde que comenzaran las protestas de la denominada Marcha del Retorno el pasado 30 de marzo han muerto 109 palestinos y más de 12.000 han resultado heridos, la mitad de ellos por munición real.
Los palestinos conmemoran este martes la Nakba (Catástrofe) que supuso para ellos el nacimiento del Estado de Israel el 14 de mayo de 1948, con una huelga general y un día de duelo por los fallecidos de ayer en medio de la inauguración de la embajada de EEUU en Jerusalén. Se esperan nuevas protestas y enfrentamientos con las fuerzas israelíes en Gaza y Cisjordania.
Colville recordó que el alto comisionado de Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos, Zeid Ra’ad al Hussein, ha definido lo que ocurre en Gaza como «muertes ilegales» porque el la Franja es un territorio ocupado por Israel, y es una violación de la cuarta Convención de Ginebra, el tratado que rige la actuación en zonas de conflicto. Al mismo tiempo, Colville definió la situación en Gaza como de «pesadilla» dada la falta de camas de hospitales y de personal para tratarlos y denunció que «Israel una vez más no ha dejado salir de la Franja a palestinos heridos para obtener tratamiento en otro lugar».
El portavoz de la Oficina de Asuntos Humanitarios de la ONU (OCHA), Jens Laerke, confirmó que Israel sigue «controlando» la salida desde Gaza y que la situación sanitaria es «una tragedia» dada la falta de capacidad para atender a «cientos de heridos» y que se están quedando sin materiales esenciales y se quedarán sin carburante en menos de una semana.
Tarik Jasarevic, portavoz de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), añadió que la capacidad de reacción de los hospitales de Gaza está en mínimos desde hace una década a causa del bloqueo israelí a la franja, y que una de cada cinco medicinas esenciales se han agotado y se necesitan urgentemente tanto antibióticos para tratar a los heridos como tratamientos para el cáncer.(Fuente: Público)
