• L’Ajuntament ha iniciat recentment la consolidació de les cobertes, amb un pressupost de 48.000 €. A aquesta quantitat cal sumar els 180.000 € que va invertir l’agent urbanitzador, dins el compromís de mantindre i evitar l’enderroc de les alqueries del Gall i de les Boles, que quedaran dins un parc i en un futur acolliran espais públics.

Gandia 12 de novembre 2018.- Nova passa important per a la recuperació de les alqueries de les Foies de Gandia. L’Ajuntament de Gandia ha iniciat ja les obres de millora i manteniment de l’Alqueria del Gall. Concretament, per a la consolidació (evitar que caiga) de la coberta, amb una inversió de 50.000 €.
Així ho han anunciat aquest matí el regidor de Patrimoni, Xavier Ródenas i el coordinador general d’Urbanisme, Vicent Mascarell. “Malgrat que la partida per a iversions és reduïda, donada la situació econòmica de l’Ajuntament, mantenim una sensibilitat elevada cap al nostre patrimoni històric”, ha assegurat Mascarell, qui també ha apuntat que en breu es podrà obrir ja el sector Les Foies.
La intervenció ha estat menys costosa, ja que s’ha aprofitat l’andamiat que encara hi havia a l’Alqueria del Gall. I és que cal recordar que fa aproximadament un any l’agent urbanitzador va invertir 180.000 € en diferents treballs de manteniment i consolidació de les alqueries del Gall i de les Boles. Aquest, juntament la cessió a la ciutat, va ser el compromís que l’Ajuntament va arrancar de l’agent urbanitzador en el seu dia com a condició per a l’adjudicació del PAI. L’objectiu és poder donar-li un ús públic futur a les dues alqueries, que quedaran emmarcades dins un parc.
“Aquest govern local té una aposta ferma pel nostre patrimoni. A poc a poc, estem protegit-lo, donant prioritat al que es troba en perill, bé siga mitjançant la compra o permutes, en el cas de les propietats privades. Un procés generalment lent i complicat. En el cas de les alqueries, el primer objectiu és evitar que continue el deteriorament i que caiguen. Posteriorment, hem d’aconseguir recursos d’altres administracions per a la seua restauració i dotar-les de contingut públic”, ha recordat Ródenas.
“L’alqueria del Gall compta amb una planta quadrada d’uns 10 metres distribuïda entre planta baixa, alta, altell i el típic miramar, una torre amb la qual els propietaris de les alqueries gaudien de les vistes. L’edifici es troba coronat per un penell amb forma de gall, que possiblement atorgara el nom al conjunt. A l’exterior destaca, a la façana principal, un rellotge de sol. Adjacent i a la part posterior hi ha una corralissa, amb la data gravada de 1856, i una pallissa. Dins de les 30 fanecades de que consta la finca existeix una bassa de reg de 12×15 que s’alimentava d’una antiga sènia de sang, que va ser substituïda per l’actual motor. Va pertànyer a dona Ana Martínez de Vallejo, vídua del secretari de Calvo Sotelo, i va passar als seus fills, malgrat trobar-se gestionada en règim d’arrendament per Vicente Figueres. Forma part del Catàleg de la Direcció General de Patrimoni Cultural Valencià i del Patrimoni Verd de l’Ajuntament de Gandia”.

James Foster, a Crown Prosecution Service specialist prosecutor, added that the CPS had authorized the charges against the six men “following a police investigation into alleged serious sexual offences against Joanne Young over a period of 13 years.”
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to charge and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings,” he said in a statement.
“We have worked closely with Wiltshire Police as they carried out their investigation.”

Alfonsi’s report was weeks in the making. Weiss screened it for the first time last Thursday night. The story was finalized on Friday, according to CBS sources, and was announced in a press release that same day.
On Saturday morning, Weiss began to change her mind about the story and raised concerns about its content, including the lack of responses from the relevant Trump administration officials.
But networks like CBS sometimes deliver taped programming to affiliates like Global TV ahead of time. That appears to be what happened in this case: The Friday version of the “60 Minutes” episode is what streamed to Canadian viewers.
The inadvertent Canadian stream is “the best thing that could have happened,” a CBS source told CNN on Monday evening, arguing that the Alfonsi piece is “excellent” and should have been televised as intended.
People close to Weiss have argued that the piece was imbalanced, however, because it did not include interviews with Trump officials.
Weiss told staffers on Monday, “We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera.” However, in an earlier memo to colleagues, Alfonsi asserted that her team tried, and their “refusal to be interviewed” was “a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story.”
At the end of the segment that streamed on Global TV’s platform, Alfonsi said Homeland Security “declined our request for an interview and referred all questions about CECOT to El Salvador. The government there did not respond to our request.”
The segment included sound bites from President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. But it was clearly meant to be a story about Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador, not about the officials who implemented Trump’s mass deportation policy.

Alfonsi’s report was weeks in the making. Weiss screened it for the first time last Thursday night. The story was finalized on Friday, according to CBS sources, and was announced in a press release that same day.
On Saturday morning, Weiss began to change her mind about the story and raised concerns about its content, including the lack of responses from the relevant Trump administration officials.
But networks like CBS sometimes deliver taped programming to affiliates like Global TV ahead of time. That appears to be what happened in this case: The Friday version of the “60 Minutes” episode is what streamed to Canadian viewers.
The inadvertent Canadian stream is “the best thing that could have happened,” a CBS source told CNN on Monday evening, arguing that the Alfonsi piece is “excellent” and should have been televised as intended.
People close to Weiss have argued that the piece was imbalanced, however, because it did not include interviews with Trump officials.
Weiss told staffers on Monday, “We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera.” However, in an earlier memo to colleagues, Alfonsi asserted that her team tried, and their “refusal to be interviewed” was “a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story.”
At the end of the segment that streamed on Global TV’s platform, Alfonsi said Homeland Security “declined our request for an interview and referred all questions about CECOT to El Salvador. The government there did not respond to our request.”
The segment included sound bites from President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. But it was clearly meant to be a story about Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador, not about the officials who implemented Trump’s mass deportation policy.

Trump defended his decision to pick Landry telling reporters on Monday evening that the US needs Greenland “for national security” and that Landry had approached him about the assignment.
“Louisiana, the Louisiana Purchase. He said I’m governor of Louisiana, and he said I would love … I didn’t call him, he called me. He’s very proactive,” Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago.
“We need Greenland for national security, not for minerals. We have so many sites for minerals and oil and everything,” Trump said, trying to make the case for annexing Greenland, despite its status as a self-governing territory of Denmark. “If you take a look at Greenland, you look up and down the coast, you have Russian and Chinese ships all over the place. We need it for national security. We have to have it,” he added.
During his Monday remarks, Trump went on to claim that Denmark has “spent no money” on Greenland and has “no military protection.”
While thanking Trump for his appointment, Landry said it was an “honor to serve you in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the US.” He also said that “this in no way affects” his position as Louisiana governor.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to annex Greenland – a huge, resource-rich island in the Atlantic and self-governing territory of Denmark – claiming that this is needed for American security purposes.
Both Greenland and Denmark, a NATO ally of the US, are staunchly opposed to the idea.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen reiterated their opposition Monday to US plans to take over Greenland, stating “you cannot annex another country. Not even with an argument about international security,” according to Reuters.
“Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders and the US shall not take over Greenland,” they said in a joint statement.
Nielsen said earlier Monday that Trump’s announcement “may sound big, but it does not change anything for us. We decide our own future,” Reuters reported.

Inside the Bari Weiss decision that led to a ‘60 Minutes’ crisis
Progressive Substack writers and commentators blasted out the clips and urged people to share them. “This could wind up being the most-watched newsmagazine segment in television history,” the high-profile Trump antagonist George Conway commented on X.
A CBS News spokesperson had no immediate comment on the astonishing turn of events.
Alfonsi’s report was weeks in the making. Weiss screened it for the first time last Thursday night. The story was finalized on Friday, according to CBS sources, and was announced in a press release that same day.
On Saturday morning, Weiss began to change her mind about the story and raised concerns about its content, including the lack of responses from the relevant Trump administration officials.
But networks like CBS sometimes deliver taped programming to affiliates like Global TV ahead of time. That appears to be what happened in this case: The Friday version of the “60 Minutes” episode is what streamed to Canadian viewers.
The inadvertent Canadian stream is “the best thing that could have happened,” a CBS source told CNN on Monday evening, arguing that the Alfonsi piece is “excellent” and should have been televised as intended.
People close to Weiss have argued that the piece was imbalanced, however, because it did not include interviews with Trump officials.
Weiss told staffers on Monday, “We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera.” However, in an earlier memo to colleagues, Alfonsi asserted that her team tried, and their “refusal to be interviewed” was “a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story.”
At the end of the segment that streamed on Global TV’s platform, Alfonsi said Homeland Security “declined our request for an interview and referred all questions about CECOT to El Salvador. The government there did not respond to our request.”
The segment included sound bites from President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. But it was clearly meant to be a story about Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador, not about the officials who implemented Trump’s mass deportation policy.

Trump defended his decision to pick Landry telling reporters on Monday evening that the US needs Greenland “for national security” and that Landry had approached him about the assignment.
“Louisiana, the Louisiana Purchase. He said I’m governor of Louisiana, and he said I would love … I didn’t call him, he called me. He’s very proactive,” Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago.
“We need Greenland for national security, not for minerals. We have so many sites for minerals and oil and everything,” Trump said, trying to make the case for annexing Greenland, despite its status as a self-governing territory of Denmark. “If you take a look at Greenland, you look up and down the coast, you have Russian and Chinese ships all over the place. We need it for national security. We have to have it,” he added.
During his Monday remarks, Trump went on to claim that Denmark has “spent no money” on Greenland and has “no military protection.”
While thanking Trump for his appointment, Landry said it was an “honor to serve you in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the US.” He also said that “this in no way affects” his position as Louisiana governor.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to annex Greenland – a huge, resource-rich island in the Atlantic and self-governing territory of Denmark – claiming that this is needed for American security purposes.
Both Greenland and Denmark, a NATO ally of the US, are staunchly opposed to the idea.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen reiterated their opposition Monday to US plans to take over Greenland, stating “you cannot annex another country. Not even with an argument about international security,” according to Reuters.
“Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders and the US shall not take over Greenland,” they said in a joint statement.
Nielsen said earlier Monday that Trump’s announcement “may sound big, but it does not change anything for us. We decide our own future,” Reuters reported.

The Great Lakes have the most shipwrecks per square mile among all bodies of water in the world, largely due to the high shipping traffic in the 19th century and the lake’s volatile weather. Researchers know about the wrecks because reporting any commercial ship that sails on the lakes is required; from the early 19th century to the 20th century, about 40,000 ships sailed the Great Lakes, Baillod said.
There are about 6,000 commercial vessels on the seabed of the Great Lakes, lost to storms or other issues. In Lake Michigan alone, there are over 200 shipwrecks waiting to be discovered, according to Baillod, who has created a database of these ships over the past three decades.

Wrecks in the Great Lakes have been found since the 1960s, but in recent years the rate of these finds has accelerated greatly, in part due to media attention, clearer waters and better technology, Baillod said. Some wreck hunters and media outlets call this the golden age for shipwreck discoveries.
“There’s a lot more shipwreck awareness now on the Great Lakes, and people are looking down in the water at what’s on the bottom,” he added. Part of the reason it’s easier to see in the water is thanks to quagga mussels — an invasive species that was introduced in the 1990s. The mollusks have filtered most of the lakes, turning them from their old greenish hue, which allowed for only a few feet of visibility, to clear blue. Now, the lakes have visibility of up to 50 to 100 feet (15 to 30.5 meters), Baillod explained.
“Tourism has popped up around paddle boarding and kayaking, and these shipwrecks are visible from the surface because the water is so clear,” he added.

And then there are advancements in technology. “Side-scan sonar used to cost $100,000 back in 1980,” he said. “The one we used to find this (shipwreck) was just over $10,000. They’ve really come down in price.”
The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, has a project in the works to map the bottom of the Great Lakes in high resolution by 2030. If the organization succeeds, all shipwrecks will be found, Baillod said.
In the meantime, Baillod said he hopes he and his team will continue to discover missing shipwrecks from his database in the coming years and bring along citizen scientists for the ride: “I keep looking, and I don’t doubt that we’ll keep finding.”
