-La iniciativa, que prevé una inversión pública de tres millones de euros, dinamizará el centro histórico

Gandia, 17 de abril de 2019. El PSPV-PSOE de Gandia ha presentado esta mañana en la emblemática plaza del Rei Jaume I uno de los proyectos estratégicos de su Programa de Gobierno: la recuperación del Palacio de Comunicaciones, más conocido como el antiguo edificio de Correos, para usos educativos y culturales. La alcaldesa de Gandia y candidata socialista a revalidar el cargo, Diana Morant, ha expuesto las líneas generales de este ambicioso proyecto que dinamizará el centro histórico y que, dado que contará con inversión pública, será de uso y gestión completamente pública.
Sobre este emblemático edificio, ubicado en la conocida popularmente como “placeta dels colomets”, se ha hablado en muchas ocasiones y han aparecido diversas propuestas encima de la mesa que incluían a otras administraciones o instituciones, pero que finalmente no se han podido llevar a cabo.
Sin embargo, ahora, según Morant: “Ha llegado la hora del edificio Correos. Ha llegado la hora de ponerlo a disposición de la ciudad, de la mano de los socialistas. Si ostentamos el Gobierno de Gandia a partir del 26 de mayo, tenemos el compromiso firme de que este edificio no pase ni un año más abandonado. Mantendrá los usos culturales y educativos, y será la misma administración pública local la que impulsará su recuperación”.
La candidata socialista avanzó algunos detalles del proyecto que ya se ha empezado a redactar, como la inversión que se ha calculado en casi tres millones de euros de fondos que provendrán de la administración pública, bien de la local, bien de otras superiores. Los diseños prevén un edificio de nueva planta. La fachada se conservará, así como toda su ornamentación. Con esta intervención culminará la rehabilitación de todo el conjunto que conformaba el antiguo convento de Sant Roc, en el que se incluye la iglesia del Beato, la Biblioteca Central o el Archivo Histórico, que ya fueron recuperados.
Las previsiones apuntan a que el proyecto podría arrancar este mismo 2019 y las obras acabar en la próxima legislatura. Respecto de los usos concretos que podría tener, los socialistas, de la mano de un Comité de Expertos encabezados por Toni Durà y Joan Muñoz, están trabajando con varias propuestas.
“Hay conversaciones sobre la mesa con otras administraciones e instituciones. Ganaremos un espacio para usos culturales y educativos del que podrá disfrutar toda la ciudadanía”, ha afirmado Diana Morant quien ha añadido que “hemos demostrado nuestra capacidad de interlocución con las administraciones superiores. En los últimos años, gracias al compromiso del Gobierno de Ximo Puig, ya tenemos comprometidos en la ciudad más de 50 millones de euros en inversiones de servicios públicos. También hemos demostrado que tenemos buena interlocución con la iniciativa privada y que acaba convirtiéndose en inversión en nuestra ciudad, como esos 73 millones de euros para la playa y el Grau”.
Respecto a los usos culturales y educativos, Morant ha explicado que una ciudad como Gandia“no puede permitirse que este espacio estratégico en el centro de la ciudad esté en desuso. Los socialistas, que hemos sido los padres de la cultura en esta ciudad, estamos en disposición de volver a ofrecer el buque insignia cultural que será este edificio para la ciudad”.
Según Toni Durà, este espacio se sumará, así, al gran “clúster cultural” que ya es el centro histórico de Gandia, al añadirse a la Casa de la Marquesa, el Teatro Serrano, el Palau Ducal o la Biblioteca Central: “Este proyecto era una asignatura pendiente que nos quedaba en la ciudad y que, como ha pasado siempre con todas las infraestructuras culturales de Gandia, nace con un gobierno socialista. Hubo un paréntesis con el PP en el que no se creó ninguna infraestructura nueva. Ahora, volvemos otra vez a tomar la iniciativa y este proyecto se hará realidad. Y será público y de todos”.
Por su parte, Joan Muñoz ha recordado el éxito conseguido esta legislatura en cuanto a recuperación de infraestructuras culturales, como por ejemplo la recuperación de la gestión pública del Teatro Serrano o las mejoras en el Convent de Sant Roc y la Sala Coll Alas: “Ahora es el momento de crecer en esas infraestructuras y vamos a hacerlo con este gran proyecto”.
Por último, Diana Morant ha declarado: “En la anterior campaña nos comprometimos con la protección la playa de l’Auir, la gestión pública de ‘les Escoletes’ o el antiguo hospital. Hemos cumplido todos nuestros compromisos. Y con la misma palabra, hoy nos comprometemos a que este edificio definitivamente sea rehabilitado y puesto en uso”.
BREVE RESEÑA DEL EDIFICIO
El edificio de Correos, de 2.000 metros cuadrados, fue construido en el año 1949 y es obra del arquitecto municipal de entonces, Pablo Soler. De estilo ecléctico de posguerra, su arquitectura se caracteriza por la regularidad, la simetría, sus arcos y por los elementos de ornamentación que se utilizan para dar prestancia al inmueble. Se compone por un cuerpo central flanqueado por dos torres.
