En un mensaje que difundió en redes sociales desde un lugar desconocido, el líder opositor venezolano Juan Guaidó llama a sus seguidores a salir a las calles el 1° de mayo para continuar las acciones contra el gobierno. «Empieza la fase final de la Operación Libertad», dijo en el mensaje.
También afirmó que el presidente Nicolás Maduro «no tiene el respaldo de las Fuerzas Armadas«, pero no ofreció detalles sobre el alzamiento que protagonizó un grupo de uniformados en apoyo al dirigente más temprano.
En un video de casi tres minutos de duración, Guaidó llamó a «toda Venezuela a las calles» para continuar con las movilizaciones en reclamo de la salida de Nicolás Maduro.
«Podemos lograr el cambio en Venezuela, mi agradecimiento a la comunidad internacional por el respaldo determinado y el llamado a las Fuerzas Armadas a seguir avanzando en la Operación Libertad», insistió.
La primera fase de la «Operación Libertad» dio inicio en la madrugada venezolana, cuando Guaidó -rodeado por unas pocas docenas de guardias nacionales y algunos vehículos blindados- difundió un video grabado cerca de la base aérea de La Carlota, en el que convocaba a civiles y otros miembros de las fuerzas armadas a unirse para derrocar a Maduro.
Junto a él se encontraba Leopoldo López, su mentor político, quien se encontraba bajo arresto domiciliario. López dijo que había sido liberado de su arresto domiciliario por las fuerzas de seguridad que se habían adherido a una orden de Guaidó.
Por la noche venezolana, y cuando el alzamiento militar daba señales de fracaso, el presidente Nicolás Maduro hizo su aparición con un mensaje televisado por cadena nacional. «Nunca antes en la historia de Venezuela había sucedido un levantamiento por el empeño obsesivo, nefasto, de un grupo de oposición de la ultraderecha venezolana, la oligarquía colombiana y el imperialismo estadounidense», afirmó.
