Tras unos problemas burocráticos, se proyecta en Madrid el documental ‘De interés general. Un barrio por un parque’, la crónica de los años de lucha de un grupo de ciudadanos que se rebeló contra las arbitrariedades del Gobierno de la Comunidad de Madrid presidido por Esperanza Aguirre e Ignacio González.
La lucha de un grupo de vecinos del distrito madrileño de Chamberí que hace ya casi 20 años se rebeló contra el abuso de poder del Gobierno de la Comunidad de Madrid entonces presidido por Esperanza Aguirre, empeñada en construir un campo de golf ilegal en un espacio público –los terrenos del Canal de Isabel II– del centro de la capital en lugar del parque que el Ayuntamiento de Madrid les había prometido a esos mismos vecinos, es una historia digna de ser contada. Sobre todo porque estos héroes de barrio doblegaron al poder.
Esta semana se ha estrenado en Madrid el documental De interés general. Un barrio por un parque (iba a estrenarse en septiembre, pero problemas burocráticos han retrasado el estreno), la crónica de aquellos años intensos de lucha, reivindicación y protesta en los que los vecinos de Chamberí lograron algo que no es muy habitual: imponerse a un gigante y a toda la maquinaria burocrática de una administración pública que se resistió con toda clase de artimañas hasta la derrota final. Fue más de una década de guerra sin cuartel en los tribunales contra una Comunidad de Madrid emperrada en que el campo de golf de pago, que llegó a inaugurarse en 2007, permaneciera.
En el documental, financiado vía crowfunding y por ellos mismos, los vecinos cuentan su propia historia en primera persona. Cuentan cómo todo empezó con una pequeña pancarta colgada en un balcón y como casi quince años después ese pequeño gesto culminó en «una victoria contra una determinada manera de ejercer el poder», según explicó hace unos meses a Público el director del documental, Miguel Ángel Sánchez.
Agrupados en la Asociación Parque Sí en Chamberí, estos ciudadanos y ciudadanas (la mayoría son mujeres) nunca se rindieron. Además de pelear en los tribunales, se movilizaron en la calle, encabezaron protestas y distintos actos reivindicativos (por uno de estos actos, la plantación de un árbol, fueron denunciados y llevados a juicio aunque posteriormente fueron absueltos) para visualizar sus demandas de un simple parque para uno de los distritos de la ciudad de Madrid con menos zonas verdes.
No pretendían nada más. Sin embargo, su acción ayudó a destapar las irregularidades que se produjeron en torno a este campo de golf que Aguirre construyó sin licencia y sin cumplir con la normativa: dicha instalación terminó por convertirse en uno de los símbolos de la corrupción del PP durante aquellos años. Ignacio González, vicepresidente de la Comunidad de Madrid por aquel entonces y que luego sucedería a Aguirre en la presidencia, amañó en favor de sus familiares los contratos para construir y gestionar el campo. Por estos amaños González tendrá que responder ante la Justicia.
El campo de golf fue finalmente desmantelado en febrero de 2018. La lucha y el sacrificio han dado sus frutos: poco a poco han ido aumentando las zonas ajardinadas en Chamberí, aunque aún está por construir el parque prometido en el espacio que en su día ocupó el campo de golf. Está previsto que para 2023, veinte años después de iniciar aquel pulso al poder, los vecinos de Chamberí podrán disfrutarlo finalmente.
Aparte del parque, la pelea de estos vecinos de Chamberí deja otra enseñanza, tal como recordaba Miguel Ángel Sánchez a Público: «En una sociedad donde impera el individualismo, donde todos peleamos por nuestra supervivencia, no podemos abdicar de nuestra responsabilidad individual por pequeña que sea, porque al final todo suma, incluso para luchar contra gigantes».

A British man, along with five others, has been charged with carrying out 56 sexual offences against his now ex-wife over a 13-year period.

Philip Young has been remanded in custody in relation to the string of charges, which include multiple counts of rape and administering a substance with the intent to overpower to allow sexual activity, according to Wiltshire Police.

Young, 49, has also been charged with voyeurism, possession of indecent images of children and possession of extreme images.

Five other men, currently on bail, have also been charged with offences against 48-year-old Joanne Young, who waived her legal right to anonymity.
The alleged offences took place between 2010 and 2023.
The men were named by police as Norman Macksoni, 47, who has been charged with one count of rape and possession of extreme images; Dean Hamilton, also 47, who is facing one count of rape and sexual assault by penetration and two counts of sexual touching; 31-year-old Conner Sanderson Doyle, who has been charged with sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching; Richard Wilkins, 61, who faces one count of rape and sexual touching and Mohammed Hassan, 37, who has been charged with sexual touching.
All six men are due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court in southwest England on Tuesday.
Geoff Smith, detective superintendent for Wiltshire police, described the charges as a “significant update” in a “complex and extensive investigation.”
He added that Joanne Young was being supported by specially trained officers and made the decision to waive her automatic legal right to anonymity “following multiple discussions with officers and support services.”
James Foster, a Crown Prosecution Service specialist prosecutor, added that the CPS had authorized the charges against the six men “following a police investigation into alleged serious sexual offences against Joanne Young over a period of 13 years.”
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to charge and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings,” he said in a statement.
“We have worked closely with Wiltshire Police as they carried out their investigation.”

On Saturday morning, Weiss began to change her mind about the story and raised concerns about its content, including the lack of responses from the relevant Trump administration officials.
But networks like CBS sometimes deliver taped programming to affiliates like Global TV ahead of time. That appears to be what happened in this case: The Friday version of the “60 Minutes” episode is what streamed to Canadian viewers.
The inadvertent Canadian stream is “the best thing that could have happened,” a CBS source told CNN on Monday evening, arguing that the Alfonsi piece is “excellent” and should have been televised as intended.
People close to Weiss have argued that the piece was imbalanced, however, because it did not include interviews with Trump officials.
Weiss told staffers on Monday, “We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera.” However, in an earlier memo to colleagues, Alfonsi asserted that her team tried, and their “refusal to be interviewed” was “a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story.”
At the end of the segment that streamed on Global TV’s platform, Alfonsi said Homeland Security “declined our request for an interview and referred all questions about CECOT to El Salvador. The government there did not respond to our request.”
The segment included sound bites from President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. But it was clearly meant to be a story about Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador, not about the officials who implemented Trump’s mass deportation policy.

Trump defended his decision to pick Landry telling reporters on Monday evening that the US needs Greenland “for national security” and that Landry had approached him about the assignment.
“Louisiana, the Louisiana Purchase. He said I’m governor of Louisiana, and he said I would love … I didn’t call him, he called me. He’s very proactive,” Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago.
“We need Greenland for national security, not for minerals. We have so many sites for minerals and oil and everything,” Trump said, trying to make the case for annexing Greenland, despite its status as a self-governing territory of Denmark. “If you take a look at Greenland, you look up and down the coast, you have Russian and Chinese ships all over the place. We need it for national security. We have to have it,” he added.
During his Monday remarks, Trump went on to claim that Denmark has “spent no money” on Greenland and has “no military protection.”
While thanking Trump for his appointment, Landry said it was an “honor to serve you in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the US.” He also said that “this in no way affects” his position as Louisiana governor.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to annex Greenland – a huge, resource-rich island in the Atlantic and self-governing territory of Denmark – claiming that this is needed for American security purposes.
Both Greenland and Denmark, a NATO ally of the US, are staunchly opposed to the idea.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen reiterated their opposition Monday to US plans to take over Greenland, stating “you cannot annex another country. Not even with an argument about international security,” according to Reuters.
“Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders and the US shall not take over Greenland,” they said in a joint statement.
Nielsen said earlier Monday that Trump’s announcement “may sound big, but it does not change anything for us. We decide our own future,” Reuters reported.

The pope’s first Christmas since his election took place in wet and cold conditions, but that failed to deter large crowds from coming out to hear his message.
Earlier during Mass, he asked how, at Christmas, “can we not think of the tents in Gaza, exposed for weeks to rain, wind and cold.” With more than 400,000 homes destroyed during Israel’s war against Hamas, Gazans are being forced to choose this winter between living in tents exposed to the elements or living inside buildings that could collapse any minute.
“Fragile is the flesh of defenseless populations, tried by so many wars, ongoing or concluded, leaving behind rubble and open wounds,” Leo said. He quoted an Israeli poet, Yehuda Amichai, who called for peace to blossom “like wildflowers.”
